News and notes...
A new year is upon us, and as always, it has us looking ahead to the coming year's worth of murky goings-ons.
- Next week, Katie Carguilo and Zachary Carlsen, managers of the Arlington and Capitol Hill shops respectively, are embarking on a journey that will be memorable indeed. They will travel to Nicaragua with folks from Counter Culture Coffee to explore the coffee farms that provide us with some of our favorite coffees. We can't wait to see Zachary's pictures from the trip!
- I (Nick) am going on a little trip of my own. I have the honor of visiting Aida Batlle at her home on the Santa Ana volcano in El Salvador. Our relationships with Counter Culture Coffee and Aida Batlle extend well-beyond mere business relations. I can't wait to be in El Salvador with CCC's coffee guru, Mr. Peter Giuliano, working on espresso development, using coffees grown not far from where I'll be! Finca Mauritania, here I come!!!
- Check out the "murky upstairs" MySpace page. There you'll see the schedule for the upcoming music-shows (always all-ages), as well as information for musicians to perform at the shop. Many musicians have mentioned their desire to see more alcohol-free and smoke-free venue opportunities like this, and we thanks to Juliet and Miguel for putting this program together.
- Speaking of MySpace, murky has its own MySpace page too. It's not like we could avoid being snared by the self-indulgent cacophony of the social networking site du jour...
- Welcome to folks finding us through The Washington Post! If you're interested in attending a coffee cupping like the one from the article, send us an email at: cuppings@murkycoffee.com, and we'll add you to our mailing list! Otherwise, we cup every Friday in our Arlington, VA training and cupping room: once at 11:30am, and again at 5:30pm. Reservations are required, and spots are extremely limited... so RSVP right away!
Thanks all for a GREAT 2006, and here's for a great Two-James-Bond!
