   from Nick

This weekend at murky capitol hill

We submitted the requested information on Thursday morning, and our "case" has been sitting on someone's desk at the DC Office of Tax and Revenue since then. Today came and went without any apparent progress at that office.

We were hoping that we could resolve the immediate issues by today, but there was no such luck. Therefore, murky coffee capitol hill will remain closed through the weekend.

We're now hoping for a Monday or Tuesday reopening, but it's hard to be too optimistic about any sort of prediction right now.

Thanks for the flood of emails of support. Again, I'm sorry about all of this, and the supportive emails have meant a lot.

Nick

Nick,
Went to the store yesterday ad saw the signs. I don't get paid til next week, so I can't complain that your guys weren't there because if they were, I'd have had to skip buying dinner. :-)

Cheers,
Eric

" our "case" has been sitting on someone's desk at the DC Office of Tax and Revenue "

You act like some of the blame should come from the DC government. This is YOUR business, and YOUR credibility. I'm sure that based on how much you owe, DC gave you plenty of notices. WORK IT OUT and stop spending other peoples money like there's no tomorrow.

My wife and I have been frequent customers of yours ever since you've been on the hill. But I have to say, this does not sit well with us at all. It's unconscionable to think that someone could be so irresponsible. We will not be back. There are other equally as good, if not better, options on the hill now.

Missing the Murky staff who have always been very gracious to me and hoping they will all be back soon. And, like everyone, sooooo missing the deliciousness that is Murky. Hoping this gets straightened out and that the city paid quickly so we can all get back to supporting our favorite independent coffee shop.

I can't believe you guys have been closed for this long. Please get your act together and pay your taxes. As you can see not having coffee makes me very disgruntled!

My family and I deeply miss Murky! For all of you that feel the same way, there is an online petition at: http://www.gopetition.com/online/17631.html
asking the DC Office of Tax and Revenue and DC Council to allow Murky Coffee to reopen quickly.

Please take a moment to sign the petition and include your comments about why Murky is important to you and our community.

It may also be helpful to send the petition as an e-mail to OTR and our Council Members:

Not surprised with the DC government on this. Given the recent WaPo articles on the housing department ignoring serious violations and the child "protective" services department ignoring serious warnings which result in child deaths, and making up other problems which result in innocent families being ripped apart and children emotionaly damaged...this is just par for the course.

My body aches for Huahuatenango!!! Everyone on Cap Hill looks tired and grumpy. That is, if they haven't already compromised their coffee ethics in all of this madness.

I second Jamie! And I notice that another fan has an online petition in support of Murky -- http://www.gopetition.com/online/17631.html -- if people are interested.

So why exactly were you a cash based business if you were charging $9 for two cups of coffee and a pastry?

To be frank, I don't buy it that you made some financial mistakes.

This is terrible!!! Murky Coffee was one of my favorite spots in all of DC, and it was a mandatory pit stop upon every visit to Eastern Market.

Will your Arlington store still remain open?

Is Murky closed for good, or is there still hope??

NIC,

Sorry to read this. But even more sorry to read what some of the extremely small minded people have written. My father was stuck in something like this and he eventually pulled through.

We'll be thinking about you out here.

I wrote something in response to some of the postings on the Feb 27 article.
